Council Member Brown requested that the next PHS Committee study the issue of retention ponds and their regulation and maintenance.  The Jacksonville Waterways Commission, which he chairs, briefly discussed the potential for future pollution problems arising from retention ponds collecting and concentrating pollutants over a course of many years.  He also is concerned about the water quality in the ponds, and the lack of regulation of people swimming in or catching eating fish from the ponds which may be contaminated.  Chairwoman Lee will suggest to the incoming PHS Chair that this item be placed on their agenda.  Lisa Rinaman stated that the pending update of the City’s Stormwater Master Plan offers a good opportunity to explore the issue of retention ponds, and noted that the Environmental Forum coming up in July will have a session devoted to the Stormwater Master Plan.

Council Member Crescimbeni congratulated the Chair on a good year of committee work, with many interesting presentations and good research into issues not necessarily related to bills on the agenda.
