Baldwin Mayor Stan Totman explained the Baldwin’s need for a fire station.  The lack of a fire station has resulted in homeowners’ and businesses’ insurance rates soaring; the nearest fire station is located in Whitehouse.  Changing the name from Hurricane Shelter to Post Disaster Shelter was done to meet a FEMA requirement.

Ivan Mote, JFRD Chief of Rescue, explained what the Memorandum of Understanding with the participating educational institutions entailed.  He also noted that any citizen could ride along with a rescue unit to observe the rescue units’ operations provided a hold harmless agreement was signed.
