LUZ COMMITTEE WORKSHOP MINUTES

 

October 15, 2013

Attendance:  Council Members Lori Boyer, Matt Schellenberg, Bill Bishop, Jim Love, Don Redman

 

Also: Jason Gabriel – Office of General Counsel; Philip Zamarron – Legislative Services Division; Jeff Clements – Council Research Division; Folks Huxford, Gary Kresel, Bruce Lewis and Stephen Smith – Planning and Development Department

 

Council Member Boyer called the meeting to order at 4:51 p.m. and announced the topic for the workshop would be the timing of the Planning Commission meeting in relation to the LUZ Committee meeting.  The current timing does not allow for the results of the Planning Commission meeting to be satisfactorily recorded and transmitted to the LUZ Committee with sufficient lead time for the committee to examine the record, consult the meeting transcript, and understand why the commission made the recommendations it did.

 

Ms. Boyer suggested moving the Planning Commission meeting from Thursday to Monday of City Council meeting week so as to give the department several more days to accomplish the work that needs to be done.  The committee recognizes that if the meeting day is moved, a transition period will be needed to allow for a shift in the Planning Commissioners’ calendars and for the accommodation of hearings that have already been advertised.  Planning Commission staff was requested to convey this idea to the Planning Commission and get their feedback. Some change is definitely needed to make the system work better for LUZ’s consideration; if not a Thursday-to-Monday switch, then something else will need to be devised.

 

There being no further business, the agenda meeting was adjourned at 4:57 p.m.
