CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING – ELECTION OF OFFICERS MINUTES


May 24, 2016

3:00 p.m.

 

Location: City Council Chamber, City Hall – St. James Building; 117 West Duval Street,

In attendance: Council Members Greg Anderson (President), Danny Becton, Aaron Bowman, Lori Boyer, Anna Lopez Brosche, Katrina Brown, Reginald Brown, Doyle Carter,  John Crescimbeni, Garrett Dennis, Al Ferraro, Reggie Gaffney, Bill Gulliford, Tommy Hazouri, Jim Love, Joyce Morgan, Sam Newby, Matt Schellenberg and Scott Wilson

 

Also: Paige Johnston and Peggy Sidman – Office of General Counsel; Cheryl Brown – Council Secretary/Director; Dana Farris – Legislative Services Division; Steve Cassada – Council Staff Services;

 

Meeting Convened: 3:00 p.m.

 

Council President Anderson called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Council Member Love gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. A roll call of attendance was taken.

 

The President opened the floor to nominations for the position of Council President-designate. Council Member Becton nominated Council Member Boyer for the position, seconded by Council Member Gaffney.

 

There being no other nominations, the Council voted 19-0 by written ballots to elect Council Member Boyer as President-designate. Ms. Boyer thanked her colleagues for their confidence in her leadership. She announced that a series of “lunch and learn” programs would be held throughout the year to provide training opportunities on important topics to council members and staff, and promised to highlight a different council district at each meeting so that council members and the general public could learn more about the City’s diversity.

 

The President opened the floor to nominations for the position of Council Vice President-designate. Council Member Bowman nominated Council Member Carter for the position, seconded by Council Member Reggie Brown.  Council Member Gulliford nominated Council Member Crescimbeni for the position, seconded by Council Member Morgan.  There being no further nominations, by written ballots the council elected Council Member Crescimbeni by a vote of 10-9 as the Vice President Designate. Mr. Crescimbeni thanked his supporters for their votes and pledged to do his best to earn the support of those who voted for Council Member Carter. He thanked Mr. Carter for a spirited and gentlemanly campaign.
