Amend/Approve DEFER Dayatra Coles explained what the bill entailed and was available
for questions. Council Member Reggie Brown objected to this item being
considered and discussed at the meeting.
He explained that he had had a noticed meeting for fact-finding this
legislation because of concerns raised at the
previous Committee meeting. He further
explained that he had announced his intention to call the noticed meeting at
the previous Committee meeting and felt that it was disrespectful to move
forward on this item at this juncture.
Mr. Brown felt that the item should have been deferred. The Vice Chair announced that he was
deferring the item. Council Member
Matt Schellenberg apologized to Council Member Brown for moving the item. |

At the end of the Committee’s agenda, Tony Allegretti, Director, Jacksonville Zoo, gave the Committee an update of events and programs at the zoo.
Charles Griggs, Public Health Department, gave a brief update on Health Department activities, particularly in monitoring the Zika Virus developments. He indicated that as warm and hot weather approach, his department is working closely with the Mosquito Control division.
Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston advised the Committee that she was going to be filing the legislation appropriating funds to Drainage Rehab. Finance Director Mike Weinstein had reported to the Committee at the previous meeting about his having identified funds in the budget to allocate to Drainage Rehab to replace funds that previous legislation had transferred to Fire & Rescue. The Committee had decided to sponsor the legislation as a whole. Ms. Johnston indicated that she would be providing Members with the proposed legislation and that if she did not hear from them about any questions or concerns, she was going to move on and file the legislation the following day (Wednesday).
