Chairman Schellenberg called the meeting to order and asked
the attendees to introduce themselves. He reviewed the Auditor’s marked agenda
which included 6 items marked for deferral, 13 items ready for action (1 as an
emergency) and 11 items for second reading and re-referral.
2016-360 (amending the Inspector General code to remove a
prohibition against candidates having been employed by the City or another
covered agency within 2 years of appointment as Inspector General) will be
taken up first on the agenda.
Mr. Schellenberg announced that Larry Schmitt, the police
officer representative on the Police and Fire Pension Fund Board of Trustees is
retiring from that position and that the first terms of Board members Bill
Scheu and Richard Patsy, City appointees to the Board, are nearing an end as
well. In conjunction with the search for a new Executive Director of the Fund,
this represents a potentially substantial turnover in the board’s leadership.
He asked that staff convey to Council President-designate Lori Boyer a request
for information at the next meeting about her intentions regarding
reappointment of Mr. Scheu and Mr. Patsy to maintain some stability on the
board.
The chairman announced that at joint Finance and Rules
Committee workshop on 2016-370 (authorizing a referendum on allowing slot
machines at licensed pari-mutuel facilities in the county) would be held on
Thursday, June 9th at 3:00 p.m. It was also announced that the annual
mandatory ethics training for City officials would take place on Friday, June
10th from 9 to 11:00 a.m.
