Meeting Convened:
1:30 p.m.
Chairman Schellenberg called the meeting to order and asked
the attendees to introduce themselves. He reviewed the Auditor’s marked agenda
which included 11 items marked for deferral, 13 items ready for action (2 as
emergencies, 1 for withdrawal) and 6 items for second reading and re-referral.
The Chairman announced that Beth McCague, Interim Executive
Director of the Police and Fire Pension Fund, would be present to discuss a
letter that City Council members had received via e-mail over last weekend
regarding alleged improprieties by the PFPF board and previous Director.
2015-127 (amending the vehicles for hire ordinance): Chairman
Schellenberg reported that the Special Committee on Vehicles for Hire will meet
again on April 6th at 1:30 p.m.
2015-457 (resolution urging the mayor to restore all
employee salary reductions enacted in 2010): Ali Shelton of the Mayor’s Office stated
that she will be meeting in the near future with council members on an
individual basis to discuss this bill.
2016-218 (resolution honoring the Ribault High School girls
basketball team on winning the state championship): the bill will be amended to
include reference to the team’s recent victory in a prestigious tournament in
New York City and the team will be honored at City Hall at the City Council
meeting on April 12th.
In response to a question from citizen John Nooney, the
Chairman indicated that he would not be allowing public comment during the
meeting.
