At the beginning of the meeting Beth McCague, Interim Executive Director of the Police and Fire Pension Fund, addressed the committee regarding e-mail correspondence received by City Council members over the past weekend from Mr.  Curtis Lee alleging improprieties by the PFPF in paying for travel for the former Executive Director and a former PFPF board member to attend a conference after they were presumably no longer eligible for board funding for such travel and questioning the awarding of compensatory time to salaried employees working more than 40 hours in a workweek. Ms. McCague said that Mr. Lee’s allegations were without merit and that the PFPF was ready and willing to provide any public record that anyone may request to substantiate her position.

Council Member Hazouri noted that the Finance Committee had deferred action on the bill yesterday pending receipt of further information, and said that he and Council Member Becton would be scheduling a noticed meeting in the next week to discuss the bill. Council Member Brosche suggested adding additional language requiring posting of signage in places where temporary and day labor are frequently used and Mr. Hazouri will consider adding language regarding signage for migrant laborers. Chairman Schellenberg suggested the need to amend the provision regarding the $500 fine for violation to clarify what counts as a violation for failure to post the required signs – per day the sign is not in place? Per visit by an inspector that finds a violation?
