BILL SUMMARY      FACT SHEET

SUB/APPROVE 5-2

Joe Peppers, CEO of Kids Hope Alliance outlined that the $1,500,000 of funding will mostly be focused towards pre-teen/teen and juvenile justice programs. CM Dennis asked Mr. Peppers to go through each line of funding and where it is being directed and if there is a waiver for the funding. CM Dennis said it was problematic to vote on this bill before the KHA Board had voted to approve the funding. Mr. Peppers said that the Board has already voted to approve the programs and Thursday the 21st will vote to approve the direct funding contracts. The funding is going largely to providers that already have a relationship with KHA. CM Wilson commented that there is not afterschool programming at Southside Middle School. Mr. Peppers stated that KHA is looking to expand programming in Council Districts 4 and 12 specifically. CM Wilson stressed the importance of growing the afterschool funding. CM Morgan asked when will the TEDx conference happen. Mr. Peppers stated that late summer is the targeted date. CM Newby stated that his only problem with the bill is that it should have gone to the KHA Board to approve the contracts before the Council acts.
