CM Gulliford provided a status update regarding
the recent opioid meeting. UF Health is launching a pilot program to provide patients
with drug abuse problems with comprehensive services to address issues
impacting the addiction.
CM Morgan invited the committee to
attend the 40th Anniversary of Kona Skate Park on Friday, April 7,
2017. She announced that Kona is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the
oldest surviving skate park.
Mr. Herbert Helsel, DCF, shared
information regarding the LSF Health Systems Care Line. LSF provides a
toll-free number, 1-877-229-9098 that offers 24 hours day/7 days a week mental health and substance abuse services. He
stated this is the quickest access for callers to receive advocacy, brief
screening & referrals, and treatment. Additionally, Mr. Helsel spoke about
the necessity of Mental Health Resource Center (MHRC) receiving additional
local funding for the Comprehensive Services Center (CSC) program. This program
is grant funded through the Department of Children and Families to implement
two centralized receiving facilities (CRF). The CRFs will provide quick and
easy access to care for walk-in clients
on a daily basis. This program is a partnership with Gateway Community
Services, Mental Health America of Northeast Florida, River Region Human
Services, and MHRC. Each entity provides specialized services to improve the
quality of life for the clients served. A representative from each agency works at the CSC to provide immediate delivery
and coordination of services. Currently, there is only one location: MHRC
North, 3333 West 20th Street, Jacksonville, FL 32254-1703.
Additional funding allows for the second
CRC at MHRC South to open and increase accessibility for clients.
