Council Member John Crewcimbeni explained that legislation regarding vehicles for hire emanates back to 2014 and 2015 when the Council had two separate special committees that sought to create a level playing field for rhw eide share industry and the taxi cab industry.  The State Legislature ultimately enacted legislation that codified regulations and resolved contentious issues. Such as insurance requirements, medallions, auto inspections and background checks on drivers.

 

Deputy General Counsel Peggy Sidman explained the amendment and fielded questions.
