RESEARCH DIVISION
PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITTEE
AGENDA MEETING MINUTES
March 17, 2008
3:30 p.m.
City Council Conference Room A
117 W. Duval Street
Attendance: Vice Chair Mia Jones; committee members Redman
and Yarborough
Philip Peterson – Auditor’s Office; Phillip Zamarron –
Legislative Services Division; Steve Rohan – Office of General Counsel;
Floretta Green – Housing and Neighborhoods Department; Alison Miller and
Celeste Hicks – ECAs
The meeting was called to
order at 3:32 p.m. by Vice Chair Mia Jones, Chairman Hyde still being in the
Finance Committee meeting on-going in the Council Chamber. Should that meeting not adjourn by 4:00 p.m.
the committee will decide whether to delay the meeting until completion of the
Finance meeting or to postpone until Wednesday.
Assistant Council Auditor
Philip Peterson reviewed the marked agenda, which included 4 items to be
deferred, 8 items ready for action and 3 items recommended for second reading
and re-referral. He noted that the Rules
Committee had scheduled several speakers to address ordinance 2008-27
(permitting dogs in the outdoor portions of restaurants) this morning, but the
meeting was postponed by the City Hall fire and evacuation until Wednesday. It will be the Chair’s decision whether to
take up the bill or defer it. With
regard to 2008-134 appropriating red light camera enforcement revenues as a
dedicated funding source for new JSO officers in neighborhoods, Ms. Jones asked
how the neighborhoods receiving the new officers would be determined. That will need to be clarified during
discussion.
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
