At the conclusion of the
agenda the committee discussed ideas for committee study issues for the
year. The committee members made the
following suggestions:
Yarborough: better code
enforcement
Hyde: 1) fleet maintenance
outsourcing; 2) indigent care payment to Shands Jacksonville – what’s the most
effective use of the $23 million per year allocation? 3) infant mortality
Joost: 1) red light
enforcement cameras; 2) tree maintenance funds; 3) Shands Jacksonville outpatient
emergency room alternative; 4) employee pre-paid health insurance cards; 5)
citing property owner, not renter, for excessive use of City services
Crescimbeni: firefighter
overtime pool (hiring of “floater” firefighters to fill in for personnel on
vacation, sick leave, etc. without having to pay full time firefighters
overtime – same concept as substitute teachers)
Lee: 1) better code
enforcement; 2) tree and landscape maintenance for crime prevention, including
better City/FDOT coordination over jurisdiction; 3) safety zones and increased
police presence around schools; 4) monthly PHS Committee neighborhood
ride-arounds; 5) rental property owner responsibility for actions of tenants.
There being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:17 p.m.
