RULES COMMITTEE AGENDA MEETING MINUTES

Attendance:  Council Members Shad (Chair), Bishop, Hyde, Yarborough, Redman, Johnson; Margaret Sidman,  Office of General Counsel; Sherry Hall and Lisa Rinaman, Administration; Justin Gicalone and Robert Phillips, Supervisor of Elections; John Jones, Public Works;  Sandra Lane, Diane Smith, Suzie Loving, ECAs; Marilyn Allen, Legislative Services; John J. Jackson, Council Research Division.

 

The Committee Chair, Council Member Shad, called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m.

 

He announced that the appointments on the agenda would be taken up first.

 

Robert Phillips announced that the Supervisor of Elections, Jerry Holland, would be at the Committee meeting.

 

The Chair announced that the first legislative items on  the agenda to be taken up would be the 2 J-bills, Item #6, Reso 2009-622, Support  Local Bill J-1 to Change Date of Assuming Ofc of Mayor, Council Members, Sheriff et al to January 1st following November elections coinciding with Gubernatorial Elections Commencing 2010, and Item #10, Reso 2009-716, Support for Local Bill J-2, Change Date of Assuming office Of Mayor et al to January 1st following Fall “Odd Year” elections commencing in 2011.

 

Council Member Johnson requested that Item #4, ORD 2009-549, Limiting Number of AMIOs, be deferred another cycle until she has had an opportunity to discuss the matter further with the bill’s co-sponsor, Council  Member Webb.

 

The Chair announced that Item #5, ORD 2009-611, to Provide an Addnl Period of Public Comment at End of Council Mtg, was being deferred at the request of the sponsor, C/M Lee.

 

There being no other items on the agenda for discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 9:36 a.m.
