At the conclusion of the
agenda, Randy Wyse, President of the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters
Local 122, made a presentation about various operational changes/cuts that took
place in the Fire and Rescue Department’s operations over the previous weekend
as a response to the City’s current year budget difficulties. In the union’s opinion the changes were
imposed on very short notice and threatened both firefighter and public safety. The committee engaged in considerable discussion
about the particular changes imposed on the Fire Department and other City
departments and about the broader subject of budget constraints and appropriate
responses in general.
