This summary is a
preliminary report of action taken by the LUZ Committee. The language of all amendments and
substitutes is not final until confirmed by the official LUZ Transcript and
filed with the Office of Legislative Services prior to the City Council
meeting.
Attendance: Committee Chair Reggie Brown; Committee Members Ray Holt, Lori Boyer, Doyle Carter (arrived 5:03 p.m.), Jim Love, Robin Lumb, and Don Redman; Council President Stephen Joost; Dylan Reingold, Office of General Counsel; John Crofts, Sean Kelly, Folks Huxford, Ken Avery, and Stephen Smith, Department of Planning and Development; Kenneth Browning, Sergeant-at-Arms; Merriane Lahmeur, Steve Cassada, and Rick Campbell, Office of City Council
The Committee Chair, Reggie Brown, called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Council President Joost addressed the committee by reflecting on previous LUZ issues, encouraging the members to use their imaginations to find middle-ground solutions. He noted that not everything has to be “either/or” and advised the members to have fun.
The Chair told members that information concerning quasi judicial ex parte communications had been distributed. He stated that C/M Boyer had agreed to chair a subcommittee on Ordinance 11-252, and that she will be choosing two members to serve with her on this. Also, he explained that the court reporter needed for everyone to speak clearly, with no sidebar conversations, and that she would need periodic breaks.
Mr. Reingold also noted the quasi judicial ex parte communications guidelines, and further explained the procedure for such matters.
