Council Member Joost announced at the beginning of the
discussion that, because of a personal business relationship with Jacksonville
Landing owner Toney Sleiman, he would be abstaining from any votes on the bill.
The committee engaged in considerable discussion of the
details and merits of the bill. John
Germany of the Office of General Counsel described the intent of the bill and
recounted the previous legislation regarding this parking lot procurement and
the previous deadlines for closing on the property.
Council Member Bishop moved a substitute to strike all of
the bill except for a provision to extend the parking lot purchase closing
deadline to April 1, 2011. Council
Member Crescimbeni moved to amend the Bishop substitute to extend the parking
lot purchase closing deadline to June 30, 2011
