There was considerable discussion.  Proponents and opponents of the proposed legislation invited numerous attendees to express their views and perspectives on the ramifications of the proposed ordinance.  Human Rights Commissioner Executive Director Charlene Taylor-Hill and Senior Assistant General Counsel Mary Jarett fielded questions from the Committee Members.

 

Council Members Redman, Carter and Gulliford expressed their opposition to the proposed legislation; Council Member Joost expressed his support of the proposed legislation; and Council Member Robin Lumb, not a member of the Committee explained why he could not vote for the measure.

 

The Chair allowed only those attendees who had not previously had an opportunity to express their views, speak on the proposed legislation.
