Summary Fact Sheet APPROVE 4-1 (Schellenberg) Council Member Matt Schellenberg requested an explanation
of the bill; in particular, he wanted to know what the purpose of the
Planning Organization was and what had it accomplished in the past 30 to 35
years. Assistant General Counsel Jason
Gabriel explained the nature and objectives of the planning organization
noting that the federal government required a comprehensive transportation
process to be eligible for the receipt of federal funds for transportation
projects. Council Member Ray Holt
explained what the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization was; he
explained that the body determined how funds received from the federal
government were directed. Council
Member Schellenberg asked for a deferral of the item for a cycle. Mario Rubio of the Mayor’s Office contended
that it was imperative that the measure be voted out of the Committee
presently. |
