At the
close of the agenda items, Council Member Kimberly Daniels commented on the Hemming
Plaza survey that she had conducted since the Committee last met. Copies of the survey had been
distributed. Previously, Council Member
Daniels indicated that she had intended to have the survey taken to gauge who
was visiting the park, how often, and whether visitors were homeless, veterans,
downtown employees or other, and whether or not the visitors had special
needs. The survey was conducted by a
team that the Council Woman had put together.
She went over the survey’s findings.
Council
Member Reggie Brown raised the issue of feeding people in the park and whether
or not it was legal. Assistant General
Counsel Paige Johnston referenced provisions in the Ordinance Code on permit
requirements to feed people in the park.
Council Member Don Redman, in whose Council District Hemming Plaza is
located, commented on problems that are encountered with feeing people in the
park. The Chair, Council Member Carter, suggested that the
Committee Members review the Ordinance Code provisions and address the issue
and concerns at the end of the next Committee meeting.
There
being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:22 P.M.
