Defer There was an extensive discussion of the proposed
legislation. Jack Shad, Public Parking, explained how he perceived
enforcement and consumer protection issues and what he hoped would be
components in the legislation. He fielded numerous questions from the
panel. Council Member Stephen Joost
saw merit in Uber’s proposal, saying that the i-phone
and app are the new yellow pages.
Council Member Matt Schellenberg explained his wariness with the
government (City) putting regulations on a business that is anxious to come
to Jacksonville. Council Members
Kimberly Daniels and John Crescimbeni raised questions and issues. Marty Fiorentino, the Fiorentino Group,
spoke on behalf of Uber. Tiffany
Acevedo, Northern Florida Transportation Group, explained why the taxi
industry had concerns about Uber’s coming to Jacksonville. Both fielded questions. |
