RECREATION & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING
April 15, 2014
2:00 P.M.
City Council Chamber
 City Hall
117 W. Duval Street
Attendance: Council Members John Crescimbeni (Chair), Don Redman (Vice Chair), E. Denise Lee, Jim Love, Ray Holt; Council Members Warren Jones and Clay Yarborough were excused; Margaret Sidman, Office of General Counsel; Council Auditor Janice Billy; Teresa Eichner, Administration; Jessica Morales, Legislative Services; John J. Jackson, Council Research Division.
The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:02 P.M.
Mr. Luis Flores, Chief, Public Buildings, Public Works Department, provided the Committee with the status of the work that his department has been undertaking to address senior centers maintenance issues. Mr. Flores indicated that the e-mailed update information that his department had provided the Committee Members had to be amended. The spread sheet and update data that the Members had before them were more accurate. Council Member E. Denise Lee requested that Mr. Flores see that the proper division or department respond to her repeated requests that the upkeep of the grounds at two particular libraries in her Council District be addressed. Mr. Flores indicated that while his division was not responsible for the upkeep of the libraries’ grounds, he would see to it that the proper department is made aware of the issue.

  Summary
Fact Sheet DEFER Though this item had been marked for action, Council
Member E. Denise Lee indicated that she continued to have problems with the
  proposed ordinance.  She indicated that
she had talked with Elaine Spencer, Chief of Housing and Community
Development and to Karen Bowling, Chief Administrative Officer about the
matter and had requested that the Administration defer the proposed
  legislation.  She was particularly
agitated that the projects in the proposed legislation were given priority
for funding over older projects.  The
Council Member indicated that she expects to offer an amendment to the
  ordinance.  Hearing no objections from
the panel, the Chair acceded to the Council Member's request and deferred the
  item. |
