Paul Harden representing the Jacksonville Jaguars explained that the 2014 Florida Legislature enacted an additional sales tax rebate, via a competitive process, for newly constructed or expanded/renovated facilities that host professional sports franchise or “significant events” such as NASCAR races and major concerts. The Jaguars are one of seven applicants for a share of the available funding and need the City’s endorsement of the application as the owner of EverBank Field. If the application is successful and the rebate is granted, additional legislation will be forthcoming to describe how the parties agree to utilize the funds.
