APPROVE 4-0

Council Member Jim Love, the bill’s sponsor, explained the bill, its appendices and fielded questions.

He explained the parking issues in the Riverside-Avondale neighborhoods that prompted his proposed legislation to reduce speed limits on selected thoroughfares and the need for striping.  Mr. Love reported that he had gone door to door in neighborhoods and encountered a favorable response for what the bill’s objectives were.  He explained that he would leave it to the discretion of the Public Works Director in determining the specific streets to be affected by speed limit reductions.  The Public Works Director, Jim Robinson, explained that he would assess the ground issues in the neighborhoods and then make recommendations on how the proposed legislation can be implemented.
