Bill Summary  

 

Deputy General Counsel Susan Grandin reviewed a set of proposed amendments to the bill. In response to a question, Deputy General Counsel Peggy Sidman noted that state law requires that a J-bill have a sponsor in the Duval Delegation before the delegation will hear a presentation on its merits. Council Member Schellenberg indicated that he had heard that another restaurateur was interested in having a property included in the commercial character area listing. Planning and Development Director Folks Huxford stated that the owner of the Five Points Village shopping center in Five Points had discussed the proposal but he did not know if that owner intended to request inclusion in the listing.

In response to a question from the committee about what steps will be needed to achieve the designation, Steven Tocknell of the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Denise Chaplick, Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator in the Planning and Development Department, described the steps the City has already undertaken and future actions needed. They noted that a City Bicycle/Pedestrian Master Plan process is underway and the results of that effort will largely inform what actions the City will need to take and what funding will be needed over the next 2 years.
