For lack of a motion to move the amendment (there were only four Members present), the item was deferred.  Prior to the deferral, a lengthy discussion ensued.  The Chair, Council Member Brown, reported on the noticed meeting that he held and concluded that a contract that the City had with the State mandated that the City maintain the historic portion of the old courthouse building.  Council Member Lori Boyer differed with Mr. Brown’s characterization of the City’s obligations. A goodly amount of the renovation work that the City was obligated to do had been completed; the tables in the former post office space on the ground floor have to be refurbished. Council Member Brown indicated that he would be scheduling another noticed meeting to clarify and resolve issues and unanswered questions. Tom Goldsbury, Chief, Building Inspection, and Assistant General Sandra Stockwell fielded questions from the panel.  Patricia Dodson, State Attorney’s Office, remarked on Memorandum of Understanding with the State Historic Preservation Office.
