At the close of agenda items, Dr. Kelli
Wells, Health Department, provided the panel with a Zika
update. In addition, she announced an
upcoming men’s health screening program and a screening for young people.
Council Member Matt Schellenberg
implored Dr. Wells to make presentations on the Zika
virus threat to the City Council. He
felt that the periodic briefings that Dr. Wells provides the Committee would be
beneficial to the Council as a whole.
Council Member Reggie Brown requested
that the Office of General Counsel research the legality of the use of slow
growth retardants as a means of curbing the overgrowth of grass and brush. The latter contributes to blight. Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston said
that she would research the issue.
