Council Member Reggie Brown initially raised concerns about the legislation particularly about modifications that were provided to a number of private businesses that had loans with the City.  He requested that the Office of Economic Development provide him with a list of businesses that had outstanding loans from the City.  Kirk Wendland, Director, Office of Economic Development, explained what the mortgage modification in this particular legislation entailed.   Council Member Al Ferraro had concerns similar to those raised by Council Member Brown.

At the close of agenda items, Dr. Kelli Wells, Health Department, provided the panel with a Zika update.  In addition, she announced an upcoming men’s health screening program and a screening for young people.

 

Council Member Matt Schellenberg implored Dr. Wells to make presentations on the Zika virus threat to the City Council.  He felt that the periodic briefings that Dr. Wells provides the Committee would be beneficial to the Council as a whole.

 

 

Council Member Reggie Brown requested that the Office of General Counsel research the legality of the use of slow growth retardants as a means of curbing the overgrowth of grass and brush.  The latter contributes to blight.  Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston said that she would research the issue.
