Bill Summary DEFER Council Member Jim Love, the resolution’s sponsor,
explained the amendment and what the resolution entailed. He noted that while there had been
workshops to explain the changes to surface water standards in other locales
of the state, there had been no opportunities for Jacksonville to have any
input. He also explained that there
ought to have been a review of the methods that were employed by the DEP to
arrive at the increase in the levels of carcinogens that were approved. Council Member Anna Lopez Brosche indicated that she was
concerned with the wording in the resolution’s whereas clauses; rather than
being “opposed” and in “opposition””, she preferred the wording in the
Environmental Protection Board’s letter of support that expressed their
“concerns.” She explained that she had
opposed this resolution when it came before the Jacksonville Waterways
Commission and cannot support it now.
She had not had an opportunity to review the whereas
clauses in the new amendment that Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston
was crafting. Council Member Greg Anderson indicated that he had
problems with the resolution and recommended that the item be deferred. |
