At the end of the agenda items, the
Chair announced that he wanted to have JEA officials at the next Committee
meeting to discuss lighting on City streets, an issue raised by a citizen
(Carnell Oliver) during Public Comments at the previous Committee meeting. Chairman Brown wants JEA to address the
conversion of current City lights to LED lights.
Jordan Pope and Renee Goode, in
attendance at the meeting, explained how JEA proposed to engage both the Mayor’s
Office and the Council in identifying and prioritizing areas of the City where
improved lighting should be installed.
Mr. Pope fielded numerous questions from the panel. John Pappas (Director) and Lin White, Public
Works Department explained the process of installing new lighting on City
streets, with Mr. Pappas clarifying that there was a difference in the
installation of lighting on City streets and JEA’s installation of lighting on
private property.
A fairly lengthy discussion ensued on
process, time-tables, available funding and other issues related to the
installation of new lighting around the City.
The Chair indicated that he expects that the TEU Committee wanted to be
a part of the discussions between JEA and the Administration. Mr. Pope, Director of Public Affairs at JEA,
assured the panel that JEA would be apprising each Council Member on the
lighting conversion work.
There being no further business, the
meeting was adjourned at 2:49 P.M.
