Presentations:

  1. Department of Health- Updates

Alison Hewitt, Department of Health, presented the latest statistics for the Zika virus. So far there has only been 1 case of locally acquired Zika, in Manatee County. At the November 6 committee meeting, there will be more information from mosquito control about prevention techniques.

  1. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office

Pat Ivey, JSO Undersheriff, presented crime statistics. City-wide, 911 calls are higher this year than last year (13.62% increase).For traffic homicides, there were 33 vehicle-pedestrian incidents so far in 2017- prompting some discussion of improving pedestrian safety. Mr. Ivey also emphasized the importance of locking car doors, as there have been more than 2000 vehicle burglaries in which the doors were unlocked. Such burglaries have led to the theft of 342 guns from unlocked vehicles. At the next JSO presentation in November, JSO will provide data on the new Shot Spotter program.
