Adjourned: 11:38 am
If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the
Council with respect to any matter considered at such meeting, such person will

ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes
the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

Presentations:
Alison Hewitt, Department of Health, presented the latest
statistics for the Zika virus. So far there has only been 1 case of locally
acquired Zika, in Manatee County. At the November 6 committee meeting, there
will be more information from mosquito control about prevention techniques.
Pat Ivey, JSO Undersheriff, presented crime statistics.
City-wide, 911 calls are higher this year than last year (13.62% increase). For
traffic homicides, there were 33 vehicle-pedestrian incidents so far in 2017-
prompting some discussion of improving pedestrian safety. Mr. Ivey also
emphasized the importance of locking car doors, as there have been more than
2000 vehicle burglaries in which the doors were unlocked. Such burglaries have
led to the theft of 342 guns from unlocked vehicles. At the next JSO
presentation in November, JSO will provide data on the new Shot Spotter
