Summary APPROVE 6-0 Council Member John
Crescimbeni, the measure’s sponsor, explained that this was a straw ballot
“taking the temperature of the public.”
He further explained what the proposed legislation entailed. A discussion ensued. Council Member Lori Boyer observed that the
vote on the measure was not a vote on whether to sell JEA or not. Rather, the issue was whether we will have
a binding referendum on a proposed sale of the utility. The Chair felt that we were “putting the
horse before the cart.” |

Summary
READ 2ND AND REREFER
Prior
to deliberating on agenda items, a number of items marked for deferral were
discussed.
Council
Member Tommy Hazouri again expressed his concern about Ordinance 2016-534, Renaming
Robinson Ave to “Harry Frisch Way”….; why was the item still on the agenda
after so long a period of time? Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston explained
that the item’s sponsor, Council Member Garrett Dennis, had requested that the
item be deferred for one more cycle to allow him the opportunity to explore other
options to name a public road or facility in honor of Mr. Frisch. Council Member Garrett announced that he has
a meeting scheduled next week with the agent for the measure to resolve the
issue.
Council
Member Lori Boyer provided the Committee with an update on the status on
Ordinances 2018-805, 2018-806 & 2018-807 (streets and truck routes). On 2018-807, Ms. Boyer reported that another
noticed meeting will be announced by Council Member Aaron Bowman. Council Member John Cresceimbeni
indicated that he had received communications from parties interested in the
trucking route issues that had not been aware of the noticed meetings.
Ms.
Boyer explained that 2018-805 had problems with language that was inconsistent
with the Comp Plan. It is likely to
take some time to resolve these issues.
2018-806 could be ready by the next cycle. Additional meetings are
needed to resolve the issues in 2018-805.
There
being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 3:05 P.M.
