PH – Open/Cont to 4/2/18

DEFER (Pursuant to Chapter 745 Municipal Code)

Council Member Doyle Carter was present to support the legislation.

During the Public Hearing, there were numerous speakers who spoke in support of the legislation to change the name of New World Avenue to POW-MIA Memorial Parkway.

Rodney Newcomber, representing New World Disc Golf, while supportive of the name-change legislation, was concerned that the name-change could be harmful to New World Disc Golf because most of his customers and visitors associated New World Disc Golf with the New World Avenue area.  Council Member John Crescimbeni offered to assist Mr. Newcomber in resolving the issues of his concern.

In response to an inquiry by Council Member Tommy Hazouri as to why this item was being deferred, Assistant General Counsel Paige Johnston explained that changing the name of a right-of-way was a somewhat lengthy process.  The process involved  having the matter evaluated by the 911 Emergency Addressing Advisory Committee; a sixty (60) day period for the notification of property owners on the thoroughfare for their input; and a review by the Historic Planning Commission.
