Summary Fact Sheet APPROVE 6-0 There was an extensive discussion on this item. Renee Hunter, Chief, Real Estate Division, Department of
Public Works, explained what the proposed legislation entailed and fielded
numerous questions. Council Member Aaron Bowman wanted to know precisely how
the property would be useful for the City.
What would the City do with the property? Ms. Hunter explained that the acquisition of the property
would enable the City to provide an additional access route and alleviate the
current situation where trains on CSX track often block the existing routes
that prevent emergency responders from accessing the area. Council Member Jim Love explained that
trains often block the roads for hours to the detriment of area residents. Council Member John Crescimbeni had a number of questions
on how the new access road is to be constructed and whether or not other
parcels abutting this property had been considered. Tom Fallin, Chief, Engineering Construction Management,
Department of Public Works, explained the City’s objectives in the
acquisition and fielded numerous questions on the construction aspects and
the acquisition process. |
