Bill Summary: This legislation appropriates $200,000 from the (State) Office of Greenways and Trails, Recreational Trails Program ($100,000) and City Match ($100,000) to fund the development of trails along the S-Line Urban Greenway. The 2002-2007 Capital Improvement Program, approved by Ordinance 2002-703-E, is amended to authorize Priority 1 Status for the "S-Line Urban Greenway" project. The bill further authorizes the Mayor and Corporation Secretary to execute all necessary agreements for the project. The trail winds through Council Districts 7, 8 & 9.
Background Information: The bill accepts a grant and provides a City match to fund the construction of urban trails system for recreational use and amenities. The S-Line skirts the west and north sides of downtown Jacksonville, beginning at Beaver Street, moves northeast across Myrtle Ave and Kings Rd and turns north at 5th Street. Continuing north, the trail passes by Oaks at Durkeville and Emmett Reed Community Center. Past 8th Street, the trail moves east, under I-95, past U Med Ctr, through Andrew Robinson School, across Main St, stopping at Liberty. The trail then picks up north of the 20th St Expwy, moves across 27th St and Liberty, continuing past Evergreen Cemetery and across Main St. From the fire station, the trail cross Pearl, 41st and 44th Sts, ending behind Norwood Plaza at the CSX railroad.
