at the request of the Mayor
Date of Introduction:

Committee(s) of Reference: F, TEUS
Date of Analysis:

Type of Action: Authorizing
railroad crossing closure
Bill Summary: The
bill authorizes the Administration to enter into an agreement with Georgia
Southern and Florida Railroad Company (GSFRC) and the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) to close the public rail grade crossing at 20th Street
to vehicular traffic.
Background
Information: GSFRC applied to the FDOT to have 20th Street closed to vehicular
traffic where it crosses the GSFRC track.
The rail line in this vicinity is two main line tracks and two spur
tracks, handling up to 40 train movements per day moving at up to 10 miles per
hour. GSFRC has agreed to remove the
crossing road surface and install warning signs where the crossing was. In its application, GSFRC agued that the
crossing is redundant since CSX closed the Old Kings Highway Road near its
Moncreif yard. Thus, there is no through
traffic and near-by industries do not use 20th Street, preferring either
Old Kings Road
or St Clair. The closing is in District
10.
