Type of Action: Approving use of Eminent Domain power

Bill Summary: The bill approves the use of Eminent Domain powers to acquire certain fee simple title parcels, perpetual easements, and construction easements needed for roadway and drainage improvements being made to Rampart Road.  The bill further authorizes General Counsel to institute appropriate condemnation proceedings.

Background Information: The needed land is in Districts 12 and 14 and totals 2,370 square feet for the 3 fee simple parcels, 10,024 square feet in 2 perpetual easements needed for drainage land, and 19,370 square feet of land needed while construction is ongoing.  The combined appraised value of these parcels is $107,725.

The $25 million Rampart Road project is approximately 1.8 miles long, beginning at the intersection with Rampart Road and ending just east of the intersection with Blanding Boulevard.  Phase 1 of this project involves the intersection with Blanding Boulevard.  It is this phase that the land is needed.  The proposed improvements call for the construction of a four-lane, divided roadway with bicycle paths and sidewalks in each direction.  The existing drainage ditches will be replaced with a curb and gutter section and a closed drainage system.  Design will facilitate future FDOT construction of an interchange at Collins Rd. and I-295.
