Bill Summary: The bill approves the use of Eminent Domain powers to acquire fee simple parcels needed for Broward Road improvements.  The bill further authorizes General Counsel to institute appropriate condemnation proceedings.

 

Background Information: There are six parcels, ranging from 2.04 acres in size 4651 square feet.  The land will be used for a drainage retention ponds in District 8.  Appraised value for the parcels is $649,800. 

 

The BJP Broward Road project is over 2.7 miles of Broward Road, beginning at I-95 and ending at Lem Turner Road.  Currently, it is a two-lane, rural section with roadside ditches.  There are four small bridges along this road and sectional sidewalks.  The proposed improvements will consist of reconstructing the road to a three-lane, urban section with sidewalks and bike lanes.  The project is currently in a design stage.  The $20 million dollar project is scheduled to start in early 2008.
