Bill Summary: The bill appropriates $371,927 from the Trail Ridge Landfill Mitigation Account to the Town of Baldwin for construction of a skate park, tent campground, restrooms, and shower facilities to be constructed adjacent to the Jacksonville-Baldwin Rail Trail visitor’s center.

 

Background Information: The Trail Ridge Landfill Mitigation Account collects a portion of the landfill tipping fee to fund improvements in the vicinity of the landfill to compensate area residents for the negative impacts of the landfill’s presence.

 

The cost estimates for the various elements of the project are as follows:

  • Skateboard park - $198,000
  • Campground/restroom/shower building materials - $63,000 (construction to be done by Town of Baldwin employees)
  • Site clearing and preparation, design fees, project administration, etc. - $110,927
