Bill Summary: This bill appropriates a $96,000 continuation grant from the State of Florida Department of Children and Families to provide child care services to refugee children and families in Duval County, as originally initiated in Ordinance 2005-1279-E.  The grant period is from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007.  The bill appropriates up to ten (10%) percent of the grant, not to exceed $9,600, in the event additional funds are secured.  Provision is made in the bill to carryover funds into Fiscal Year 2007-2008.  No City matching funds are required for the grant.

 

Background Information: The funds appropriated by this bill provide childcare services to children whose parents are deemed political refugees.  There about 30 children involved in the program.  The Director of Administration and Finance is authorized to make necessary accounting adjustments, without further Council action, to reflect actual grant revenues received.
