Bill Summary: This bill appropriates $70,000 from the Handicap Parking Trust Fund account ($65,000 to fund ongoing miscellaneous and emergency client assistance including the construction of wheelchair ramps, wheelchair repairs, translation of Braille documents and $5,000 to provide admission for up to 500 disabled individuals sponsorship of the 4^th Annual Fun with the Suns event. The bill provides for the funds to carryover to Fiscal Year 2007-2008.

Background Information: Motor vehicle operators who park their vehicles in parking spaces specifically reserved for the handicapped are fined accordingly. The fines collected are deposited in the Handicapped Parking Trust Fund account. A portion of the funds appropriated by this bill will cover admission for admission of 500 people with disabilities to a special event whose purposes, according to Jack Gillrup, Chief, Disabled Services Division, Community Services Department, is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
