Bill Summary: The bill appropriates $15,000 from the Building Inspection Special Revenue Fund to purchase laptops for field fire inspectors in the Fire and Rescue Department.

 

Background Information: Fire and Rescue in charged with doing periodic inspections of multifamily and commercial structures, both during the various construction phases and then on a post-construction basis, for fire sprinkler systems and fire code standards.  Currently, there are five field inspectors.  The funds are to purchase five laptops, at $3000 a piece, which will allow the inspectors to input inspection data while at the site of the inspection.  This would be similar to the process currently used by the various construction inspectors in the Building Inspections department.  ITD is currently writing the report generating software to be installed on the computers.  The intent is to increase the efficiency in executing this task.
