Bill Summary: This bill confirms the Mayor’s appointment of Bradford G. Thoburn as the Director of the Planning and Development Department and waives the Ordinance Code educational and experience requirements for the position.

 

Background Information: Per Sec. 30.101, Ordinance Code, the requirements for this position are a master’s degree in public administration, urban planning or a related field or ten years’ professional and administrative experience in a managerial capacity, at least five of which shall be in an urban planning agency or organization.

 

Mr. Thoburn received a bachelor’s degree in politics from Washington and Lee University.  He has been employed with the City since 1998, serving in the Mayor’s Office handling federal and state government affairs until he was appointed as the “Interim” Director of the Planning and Development Department last September.
