Bill Type and Number: Ordinance 2007-66
Sponsor: Council Member Ray
Date of Introduction: January 9, 2007
Committee(s) of Reference: TEUS
Date of Analysis: January 12, 2007
Type of Action: Ordinance Code amendment
Bill Summary: This bill amends Ordinance
Code Chapter 744 - Street Construction Regulation – to create a new section
744.111 (Intelligent Traffic Systems [ITS] Coordination) which would require the Public Works
Department to coordinate and design all ITS components of road projects and
improvements to be consistent with regional plans and concepts developed by the
Jacksonville Regional Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Background Information: This formally codifies a
provision originally enacted in Ordinance 2006-1196-E that conditioned the
expenditure of the $4.1 million appropriated by that ordinance for various
traffic improvement projects on the Public Works Department’s coordination of
all ITS-related expenditures with the regional MPO’s ITS plans and
concepts. Consistency of City ITS plans
and expenditures with the MPO’s plans and programs will ensure coordination and
consistency of the City’s ITS system with those of adjoining counties and with
the ITS system being implemented by the Florida Department of Transportation on
its state roads.
Policy Impact Area: ITS coordination
Fiscal Impact: None
