Bill Summary: The bill expresses the Council’s support for the mission of the Northeast Florida Regional Health Organization (NEFRHO) and states its intent to seek ways to assist the NEFRHO in the pursuit of its goals.

 

Background Information: The NEFRHO, serving the 7-county Northeast Florida region, is one of numerous regional health information organizations forming across the country.  Originally organized as a means of helping reduce health care costs and increase efficiencies by facilitating the electronic sharing of patient medical records across the spectrum of health care providers (physicians, hospitals, labs, insurance companies, etc.), many regional health organizations are expanding their missions to include providing information on health care provider pricing and performance, development of “best practices” guidelines for diagnoses and treatment in specialty fields, and the development of standard templates for clinical decision-making and information sharing.
