Bill Type and Number: Ordinance 2007 - 106
Sponsor: Council Member Jenkins
Date of Introduction: January 23, 2007
Committee(s) of Reference: ECID, LUZ
Date of Analysis: January 26, 2007
Type of Action: Creating new Section 740.116 - Downtown sidewalk closures
Bill Summary: The bill will require that a downtown area sidewalk may not be impaired, boarded, or otherwise closed to pedestrian use for more than 7 days in a year.
Background Information: During remodeling and new construction of buildings, it is often necessary to rope or fence off a section of a sidewalk, or even a lane of the road, for public safety reasons and to increase access to the building by construction workers and suppliers. Unfortunately, in large projects, this need for sidewalk closure can be lengthy time-wise. The negative impact on the public is often inconvenience and increased risk of walking in the street to go around the section of closed sidewalk.
Policy Impact Area: Downtown sidewalks
Fiscal Impact: Undetermined
