Bill Summary: This ordinance relates to the Hogpen Creek Dredge Project that was authorized and funded by Ordinance 2003-873-E.  The ordinance expresses the intent to use the Uniform Method for the collection of non-ad valorem special assessments to defray Hogpen Creek Project costs as authorized by Section 197.3632, FLA STAT.  The Hogpen Creek dredging project site is in Council District 3.

 

Background Information: 74% of the property owners whose property abuts and will benefit from the Hogpen Creek dredge voted in support of the project and the special assessment.  Ordinance 2003-873-E that authorized the project stipulated that in order for the assessments to be collected by the Uniform Method on the November 2007 Tax Notice (the project is expected to be completed during the calendar year 2007),  a resolution is required prior to March 1, 2007.  The levy of the assessment is needed in order to defray a portion of the cost of dredging Hogpen Creek and is being imposed on those property owners who benefit from the improvements.
