Bill Summary: The ordinance authorizes the Mayor to apply to the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) for 2007 Waterway Assistance Program (WAP) grants to undertake specified waterways-related projects.  The bill further authorizes the Mayor and Corporation Secretary to execute all grant applications and other documents related to the grants.

 

Background Information: The Jacksonville Waterways Commission meets with and works closely with the Parks, Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation Department in compiling a list or projects for annual grant applications.  FIND grant applications must be accompanied by legislation acknowledging a county’s willingness to meet matching fund requirements.  A sub-committee of JWW met with Parks & Recreation to prioritize the County’s waterways projects.  The recommendations of the sub-committee have been reviewed and approved by the Jacksonville Waterways Commission.  The projects in the grant application include:

 

  • Sister’s Creek. 
  • Castaway Dredge Phase II
  • Joe Carlucci
  • Alimacani Boat Ramp
  • Westside Regional Park
  • Palms Fish Camp
  • Lighthouse Boat ramp
  • Lighting, electric & Water at Metro Park marina

 

Estimated cost of projects: $2,650,000.

Funding requested from FIND: $1,462,500

City match required: $1,187,500.
